3 Things You Need To Know When Choosing a Web Host

Finding the best web hosting for your site might seem like mission impossible. There are so many web hosting companies, web hosting resellers, registrars, etc. that your head starts to spin. What is more, the offers differ in price and in technical parameters and this all makes it even more confusing. However, the situation is not that desperate and if you follow the simple tips we list here, you won't have much problems to choose the best web hosting for you.

The three things to keep in mind when choosing a web hosting provider:

The basic rule is that the more you know, the easier it is to choose the best web host. However, since one can't know everything, here are the things you must really know:

1. How much storage space is enough for you?
Storage space means how many GBs of server space you will be using. The amount depends mainly on the size of your site. For instance, if you plan to launch a huge site with many pages and many large images, video, audio, etc. files, this will require a lot of storage space – 10GB is the bare minimum to start with. If you add a mail server to your domain and store your emails there, then even 10GB might not be enough. On the other hand, if you plan to launch a small business site with limited amounts of multimedia content, 1GB might be just right for you.

2. How much bandwidth is enough for you?
The amount of bandwidth you will need depends on how much traffic you expect to have. The amount of traffic includes the number of monthly visitors and what kind of data they will use – i.e. will they just browse your pages, or will they download stuff from your site. Bandwidth is again measured in GB per month and generally 2GB a month is the bare minimum for a small site with decent traffic.
Many webhosting providers offer 10GB a month as their lowest offer and this is cheap. 10GB is a lot but for a large site it is just the daily bandwidth. All equal, it is better to sign up for an offer with more bandwidth because if you choose a webhosting package with low bandwidth and you exceed it, you might have to pay for it at much higher rates. In some cases, if you exceed your bandwidth, your site will simply be taken down till you pay,  so it makes sense to pick an offer with more bandwidth, even if you don't need it at present.

3. How much can you pay a month?
Web hosting fees vary largely, mainly depending on the type of web hosting you choose. Shared web hosting is the cheapest type of webhosting and typically for a small site it is the best choice. However, price shouldn't be your only criterion. If you are looking for webhosting for a large site, then VPS, collocation hosting, or Windows web hosting might be a better idea because even though they are more expensive, they offer more than shared hosting.

There are, of course, several other factors to consider in your search for the right web hosting provider. But these are the three most important ones, and any business owner planning to take his business online should know these by heart.
